Does Ring record when motion detected?
Ring devices use motion detection technology that activates when movement is detected within a certain distance of your Ring device. Once motion is detected, you will receive a notification in your Ring app, and your device will start recording.
What happens when Ring detects motion?
During the day, your powered Ring device uses Advanced Motion Detection to actively look for objects within the defined Motion Zones you set. The powered Ring device will see the object, then verify the object is really a motion by checking the PIR Sensor to verify it is real.
Why isn’t my Ring camera picking up motion?
If the Ring doorbell is positioned correctly but won’t detect any motion, perhaps you’ve set the sensitivity too low. Tap the three lines on the top left of your Ring app and select the video doorbell. Choose “Motion Settings.” The motion sensitivity slider is the third option in the menu.

Once motion is detected, you will receive a notification in your Ring app, and your device will start recording. If you have a battery-powered Ring device and you switched to Advanced Motion Detection, you will no longer see the option for Motion Verification in your Ring app.
