Do you deadhead dahlia plants?
Deadheading dahlias is very important to prolong flowering. The difference between buds and spent flower heads can be confusing – the buds are round, while spent flower heads are more pointed. Remove the whole flowering stem.
What to do when dahlias have finished flowering?
- Dig all around the dahlia clump and lift the tubers with a fork, taking great care not to damage them with the spikes. Shake off as much soil as you can.
- Rinse off the soil thoroughly, then stand the tubers upside down to dry.
- Pack the tubers in a box or pot and cover them with dry compost.
